Pit Pass with Kipp
OR-15
OR-15 was the younger and heavier sister of OR-14, sharing most of the main components. The overall appearance of the car between 14 and 15 is almost identical, however the internals and manufacturing were done very differently. The main goal of this year was reliability: get the car running and keep it running and we’ll worry about weight later. With this main goal in mind, the car was heavier than we wanted, however it ran and ran and ran. With over 100 hours of testing and counting, it is the longest running car in the Owls Racing lineup
Shortly before Michigan 2015, the head on the engine blew, along with other issues that appeared just before the competition, causing a significant loss in power. After a few sleepless nights, we managed to get the engine running again, albeit not at peak performance. At competition, we managed to place 16th in autocross, 29th in acceleration, and 25th in endurance, putting us in 24th overall. For a heavy, non-aero car, we were very happy with the result. Endurance went without a hitch, save for a car spinning out in front of our second driver and fire crews rushing in.
Today, OR-15 is being used as a testing and training platform for driver training and racecar maintenance, as well as a show car for recruiting and public relations events.
